Dosage Forms: refers to the means by which a drug is available for use, or the vehicle by which the drug is delivered
Drugs have got different forms and shapes according to their properties and the purpose that are used for. There are many factors that determine the form of drugs:

1. Physical & chemical properties of the drugs: If the drug is stable, unstable, irritant, affected by heat or light etc.

2. The site of absorption of drugs: Some drugs are absorbed from the stomach, others by small intestine.

3. Taste & odor of the drugs: Some drugs have bitter taste, others have sweet taste. The drugs may have an acceptable odor or may have not.

4. The desire of the patient: Some patients favor oral administration more than injection, so they use tablets, capsules or even drink. Others may asked for other route of taking the drug than swallowing, because they have some disorders such as narrowing of the esophagus or infection of the pharynx.

5. Site of the disease: Very important to make sure that the taken drug reaches very fast to the site of disease & without loss in its effectiveness.
